Our statement on the attack in Colorado Springs
To Our HomeField Family,
On this Trans Day of Remembrance, we are met with the news of yet another violent attack on our community. Our hearts are with the victims, the survivors, and the entire Colorado Springs community in the wake of this tragedy.
We encourage each of you to care for yourselves as we navigate this grief. Please know that anything you may be feeling is valid, ask for help if you need it, and give yourself the space to mourn.
In the coming days, HomeField Alliance will share resources on how to aid the Colorado Springs community, how to fight anti-trans legislation, and information on organizations doing incredible work to fight for the LGBTQ+ community as well as gun control reform.
This shooting comes at a time when anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation is at a terrifying high, especially against our Trans community. Such language and sentiments create division and hatred, and foment violence such as this. Such language and sentiments have no place in our society. Transgender people should be able to live as their true selves without fear, shame, or interference from the law. The LGBTQ+ community should be able to live their truth and gather together without fear of discrimination or violence. It is the responsibility of all to make that a reality, both through words and direct action. We cannot and will not allow hate to win. May we channel our grief and anger into action as we fight for a future where we are all truly free and equal.
